Artist Bio

Sabra Schmudde is an Illinois artist who works out of her studio, Earthcirlces, located just outside of Peoria. After graduating from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania, she went on to teach art in Pennsylvania, Texas, and Illinois. Her career took her into graphic design, which included full responsibility for the layout, graphic design and cover illustration for a 200-page catalogue for nationwide distribution. She did free-lance graphic design work for a number of years until she was able to return to fine arts. She returned to painting until she rediscovered clay, which she had studied under Dr. Harold T. Mantz at Kutztown.

As she continuer her education, she did graduate work studying with Tom Malone at Illinois State University and Bob Dixon at the University of Illinois at Springfield. These outlets provided her with opportunities to interact with other potters and to gain insights in the direction that the art form is moving.

Sabra is a member of the Peoria Art Guild. All of her artwork is done under her professional name "Sabra," at her gallery, Earthcircles. Showings are available by appointment.

She has had one-person shows at Illinois central college in painting and a two-person show with David Dowell featuring ceramics functional and sculptural work. Other exhibits include One World in Peoria, IL with the ISU international Potters guild, and the Members Art Guild Show, where in 2004 she won a people’s choice award.

Studio Potter, a biannual magazine, visited her studio in Spring of 2003, which resulted in an article about her work in the June issue.
